28 Jun How to Know Which Colleges to Apply to!
Right now many kids are on holiday, while some are wrapping up exams – GOOD LUCK!
I wanted to share a little bit about our process of building COLLEGE LISTS because you could have the best profile – work hard for years, have HIGH SAT score – and the wrong list will torpedo it all!
PLUS footage from our Open House which gives you GREAT info on getting in and getting scholarships to the BEST fit school for you.
… so where do we start?
When I was applying to college my dad told me I needed a FULL scholarship in order to go to college! So, I ONLY focused on colleges that gave LARGE need-based Financial Aid and merit-based Scholarships to International Students.
We see too many students apply, get in, but don’t get enough money – they come to us AFTER to ask for our help in finding scholarships – but by then it is too late, so they don’t end up going!
This is why we START with the family’s budget!
We then look at the students’ Citizenship, Academic Record (transcript / grades from Grade 9/4th form to present, SAT / ACT scores) and Extra Curricular Record (leadership, impact, commitment, achievement), Race / Ethnicity which we match with the BUDGET and historical record of admission AND scholarships from colleges for students of that profile. Then we create a list of FINANCIALLY possible schools for the student.
Our SAT PREP SUMMER PROGRAM has 10 spaces left – and starts in just 2 weeks!! Head to aimtestprep.com to sign up!
INTERESTS & PREFERENCES
Then we narrow the list based on the students skills, interests, personality and preferences (Choice of Major, Size, Location, Learning Style etc).
Then we give students specific research exercises to investigate the schools we have suggested – no google – specific resources using our proprietary software’s RESEARCH LAUNCHPAD – everything from admit rates, virtual tours, size / location / population/ majors / social life etc etc etc.
Students then complete a spreadsheet with a built in formula which will assess the percentage fit of the school for the student!
It’s part art, part science, part gut feeling based on our experience!
Last year 100% of our Private Consulting students received the scholarships needed to matriculate to Universities in the US and Canada.
Come in for a 1 hour consultation to discuss your Profile what you need to do (and when) to achieve success in Admissions!
After our consultation, if we think you are the right fit for AIM and we can meet your needs, we will invite you to join our College Prep Class or Private Consulting Programs!
